Making learning relevant to the workplace

Non-Traditional students want learning which is relevant to work, which can be taken back to work and which builds on their work experiences. They want to learn new skills and be able to relate these to the work situations they find themselves in. Developing skills which are useful to them and to their practice is key.

As a part-time learner myself, I want to be able to learn something relevent to my own work. It seems that e-learning provides special opportunites to share learning.

A blended learning model offers the chance to literally take learning out of the classroom and back to the workplace.

  • on-line case studies and examples can be reflected on in work settings

  • self-tests can relate learning to experience

  • discussion can enable students to relate their experience to their work

Web-essays can offer a very direct way to take learning back to the workplace.
